A HAPPY 4TH OF JULY : RARE BACKSTAGE CANDID STILL OF PC AND SCREAM FACTORY RELEASES HELL BLU RAY DATE!

TODAY AND DURING these times... please look after each other, have a good time and a safe time 😉

NEWS: SCREAM FACTORY gives a new release date for the much anticipated blu ray release of Hammer films LAST Peter Cushing / Frankenstein film, 'Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell' (1974)! Scream Factory has announced that they will bring Terence Fisher’s sixth and final entry in the frightening Frankenstein cycle to Cushing and Hammer fans on August 18th, 2020.

US FANS have waited a long time for this one, while the film has enjoyed distribution on blu ray in other international regions, over the last few years

FULL PCASUK REVIEW OF FILM WITH GREAT GALLERY OF COLOUR STILLS!

... AND THEY WON'T  be disappointed with an addition of TWO NEW additions to the extras menus, not included on those other region releases : Audio Commentary With Film Historian/Author Steve Haberman And Film Historian / Film maker Constantine Nasr and a new documentary entitled, 'The Men Who Made Hammer': Roy Skeggs . . which one hopes that this is the first in a series of short docs on other Hammer 'men' and 'women' who helped to make Hammer such an amazingly successful production company . . also included are Audio Commentary With Actress Madeline Smith, Actor David Prowse, and Film Historian Jonathan Sothcott, a Theatrical Trailer and Radio Spots

DURING OUR #ThrowBackThursday this week, at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE I posted a rare and wonderful photograph of Peter Cushing back stage, making up and prepping for a theatre production probably around late 1940's early 50's. The title, I am STILL not sure about . . The Silver Whistle (??) but I am sure there are many out there that know much more about Peter's stage and theatre work than I profess to... who may identify the show he is appearing in! 😕 Any ideas?

AND FINALLY, at the Facebook PCASUK FAN PAGE this week, I posted this cute photograph of #VINCENTPRICE ... I loved the films which cast both Peter Cushing and Vincent together. I wish there were more...But, here's one of my fav Vincent Price pics... and as a quick puzzler I am asking, YOU which film does this come from AND who is the actress on the left? Many people did recognise it. Can YOU?

HAMMER FILMS PRODUCER ROY SKEGGS DIES AGED 83

VERY SAD TO HEAR ROY SKEGGS, one of the very few left of the Hammer films 'home guard' sadly passed away on the weekend. Roy was a producer for Hammer Films and began his connection with the company way back at Bray studios in 1963 as production accountant. Roy was then promoted to 'company accountant' and secretary. He became production supervisor in 1970 and (with Brian Lawrence) took over the reins of the company when it fell into receivership in 1979. Was latterly chairman of Hammer films, based in Elstree.

ROY WAS BORN in 1934. He was a very capable and respected producer and production manager, and probably best known for his work with Hammer films. He was responsible for Peter Cushing's last return to the company with the tv series, Hammer House of Horrpr' in 1980. The series expanded into 'Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense' in 1984, and became a winner overseas and the US. He worked alongside Peter on 'Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell' (1974), Dracula AD 1972 and The Satanic Rites of Dracula.

A PERIOD OF ILLNESS took Roy away from his love of Hammer films in the 1990's... but in the last few years, although always having been a very shy man, he stepped out to one or two conventions and signing days .. and was surprised not only how much he enjoyed the attention...but how fans and the public remembered him and his work with Hammer films. A hard worker, very good at 'math' and was responsible for bringing Hammer back to the small screen and Cushing's final bow as Frankenstein. Thank you Roy

TERENCE FISHER TAKES A SPIN ; TUESDAY TOUGHY : JANET HARGREAVES DIES 81

THIS WEEKS TUESDAY TOUGHY! This weeks TOUGHY features a rare and quite splendid photograph of director, Terrence Fisher. The answer to last week's TOUGHY is below! Have fun, I will give you the answer to this one, right here next week. THIS POST also appears at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE today too, where no doubt, many will be debating the two questions. IF YOU would also like to join in the fun, simple click HERE  and click LIKE there and maybe, YOU will come up with the answer!

BELOW THE ANSWER TO LAST WEEKS TUESDAY TOUGHY!

IT'S VERY SAD TO HEAR of the passing of an actress, who made her name on the small screen, playing a very popular and sinister villain, in the TV soap series, Crossroads. In the 1970's along with actress Sue Lloyd, the character – whom Hargreaves once described as a “Technicolor villain” – was labelled “unhinged” and “deranged”, and kept millions nightly glued to the screen. From 1971 until her explosive final storyline nine years later, Rosemary became increasingly bitter – and unstable – while seeking to hold on to those closest to her. Her final episodes pulled in millions of viewers.

DURING THIS TIME, Janet Hargreaves also played a small role with Peter Cushing in the last of Hammer's Frankenstein saga, 'Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell', playing 'on-the-edge' Challer, one of the many hand picked excellent character actors, who chillingly twitched and stared, as the unfortunate inmates of the Baron's hospital ward. Janet also played the role of 'Mother' in the Sylvester McCoy Doctor Who story, 'The Greatest Show in the Galaxy' in the late 1980's. Janet didn't get many roles on the big screen, but her face was known to many UK TV viewers.

WHEN WATCHING 'Monster from Hell' with my Grandmother for the first time back in the late 1980's, she let out a shrill note of surprise, when the inmates shuffled on screen. 'Goodness, that's Rosemary Hunter, from Crossroads!!' My Gran was a big fan of the soap. Janet Elizabeth Hargreaves, actor, born 31st May 1937; died 4th August 2018, remembered today

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MADELINE SMITH HAMMER FILMS SCREAM QUEEN AND MUCH MORE!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: PLEASE JOIN US IN WISHING MADELEINE SMITH a Very Happy Birthday today! She best known for her roles in three films for Hammer, Taste The Blood of Dracula (1970), The Vampire Lovers (1970) and Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell (1974).

FEATURED IN OUR BANNER is what is probably one of her best performances as Sarah (The Angel) in Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell co-starring Peter Cushing, and Shane Briant. Mind you, she was pretty good in the UK tv series, The Steam Video Company in the early 1980’s. She has a very good sense of humour and timing too!

#MONSTERMONDAY A MONSTER FROM HELL GIFS AND COLOUR PICS

And so, we start the week with our usual throwing a spotlight on a 'monster, creation, thing!' featured in a film of your choosing. This week's unthinkable, comes with it's reputation stamped firmly on the title of the film, in which it appeared... A Monster from Hell, the poster screamed. The monster, being the latest creation of Peter Cushing's Baron Frankenstein in his last outing as the Baron for Hammer films in 1974. As always, this feature is a request feature and also appears on our interactive thread on our PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE.. and Tim Johnson, has requested 'The Monster'...with the suggestion that we open this one also for a fair debate!

Tim feels Dave Prowse's role as the unfortunate creature, has been under valued, not given fair credit...so, that sounded good to me. So, I will post some cool pics of Dave as the 'Monster' in this thread, also share this post, as always on the website...and maybe you would like to share YOUR opinion... on this week's MONSTER? 'FEAR FILLED or FLOP?' A Trip to HELL? or A WALK in the Park? Did Dave Prose's MONSTER DO IT for you?

Many ask, 'Why the rubber mask and suit? Had Hammer not leaned from their mistakes with Kiwi Kingston in 'The Evil of Frankenstein'? Make up man, Eddie Knight, was faced with a dilemma. Knight also had make up duties on the previous Hammer / Cushing Frankenstein film, before this one, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. A problem with full body monsters in limited budget films, is time. Make up artist, Roy Ashton kin his interviews with PCAS always pressed the point, that many make ups could have been so much better had they given him more time. Time to research, prepare and on the actual studio floor during shooting. When it came to shooting Monster From Hell, it was decided to opt for the mask and suit...just like in Evil of Frankenstein...that would take as little time as possible to put on, apply and maintain during the days shooting. It may not have been the best make up, but it was the best solution...
