AMICUS AND HAMMER FILMS GEM: DENHOLM ELLIOT REMEMBERED TODAY!

REMEMBERING today.. Denholm Elliott, who was born on this day in 1922. A long and fascinating career, with which seems to have cross just about every genre, he even had some time to stop off and appear in one of the best portmanteau Amicus films with Peter Cushing in the much loved, The House that Dripped Blood in 1971 . . .

ELLIOIT followed that with another Amicus film, Vault of Horror in 1973 and appeared in Hammer films last horror film, To The Devil A Daughter with Christopher Lee in 1976. For many today, he is well remembered for his role as Marcus Brody in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. Your favourite Denholm Elliot role? I thought he was very good in Brimstone and Treacle in 1987... with pop star Sting, of all people. But ...interesting none the less...

A NEW YEARS EVE SNAP SHOT OF 2015 WITH THE PETER CUSHING APPRECIATION SOCIETY

Well, 2015 has been quite an exciting year, but not without it's ups and downs. It's been a year of meeting more friends, more than any other during our time on facebook. We've had more competitions this year, I haven't counted how many blu rays and dvd's and prizes we've given away this year, but skipping through the banners, I can see many have had a parcel of goodies through their letter box this year. It's been a year of making friends and links with Warner Brothers, Eureka, Screen Bound, Twilight Time and many others, all who have been extremely generous to us with sponsorship of our competitions, and I would like again to thank them for their friendship and generosity.

FOR PILGRIM'S HOSPICE CHARITY: HERE

Cushing's Tales from the Crypt 'Grimsdyke', look-a-likey popping up in 'The Walking Dead', Talk of Cushing re-appearing as Tarkin in Star Wars: Rogue One. It's surprising how often Cushing still pops up in the news. And the releases of a truck load of remastered blu rays of some of Cushing's best work, has kept our news posts very busy. November brought us the release of Donald Fearney's 'Milton Subotsky's and Max J. Rosenberg's AMICUS VAULT OF HORRORS' mammoth documentary. A labour of love and what has to be the definitive history of Amicus films. Cushing's over coat and cardigan, auctioned on ebay to provide some much needed funds for the Canterbury Pilgrim's Hospice, has brought the year to a satisfying end.

For many Peter Cushing, is more than an actor, celebrity and gentleman.. he kept many hearts a flutter, and not just through fear in his fantasy films.. he was a heart throb..and never more so than during the 1950's, when he was hardly off the tv screen... what has been one of the very interesting things about this year, has been watching our female following stats growing every week, and a regular flow of comments from followers, expressing the kind of platitudes reserved usually, for the likes of actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and his like... so for you, here's our New Year's Eve Peter Cushing tribute video... Peter would have been thrilled that even up to the end and..after, he could still make hearts skip a beat, in more ways than one!

A VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER ROMANTIC TRIBUTE TO PETER CUSHING
EDITED BY SRHFTW AND SUNG BY GIRL IN A COMA
We have also sadly lost quite a few friends and associates of Peter's this year, many have left a sad space, never to be filled ...and none more greater than Sir Christopher Lee. We all knew one day it would happen, but it was, I am sure for all, a great shock when it happened. He, like Peter will always be missed and remembered, and we will continue to keep his memory alive too.

THE ONLY WAY IT COULD BE DONE! CHRISTOPHER LEE TRIBUTE VIDEO POSTED AT PCAS ON THE DAY HIS PASSING WAS ANNOUNCED
.... HIS WAY!

So, we look to the next 365 and what it will bring. We have a few surprises up our sleeve, I'll endeavour to keep the posts coming. Your support as ever is greatly appreciated. It's YOUR page and the website too. It's been a year that would not have been any fun, if you'd not all been around to help share it!

THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO, OH! AMICUS VAULT OF HORROR AND DR TERRORS PROMOTION

'Things That Make You Go, Oh!'...Never let it be said that Amicus films, didn't take full advantage of the opportunity to promote their films, within..their own films! Here's Michael Craig as Maitland..there's that Amicus name again...in the story 'Bargain In Death' from 'Vault of Horror' (1973), reading the Bantam paperback tie-in novel of the Amicus release, Tales from the Crypt from the previous year!

Though this wasn't the first time Amicus did some 'product placement' least we forget the 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors' poster.. actually featured IN in Amicus film, 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors'! Not the poster art work that was used to promote the film..but near enough. Director Freddie Francis is credited, as is producer Subotsky.... the cast surname of Schreck is a reference to Peter Cushing's character in the film, the sinister Dr Schreck.

There will only be 300 dvd's produced of the documentary, 'Amicus: The Vault Of Horror'.

Along with the dvd there is also a very nice line in extras and gifts, that are included in 'some' of the dvd's packaging. Think, Golden Ticket and Wonka Bar..and you'll get the idea. Just TWO dvd cases contain a 'GOLDEN TICKET' which entitles the winner to one copy of the book, 'Amicus: The Vault Of Horror'. And finally...   Just ONE dvd also contains another ticket that entitles the winner to the prize of a genuine bankers cheque, signed by Peter Cushing, from his business bank account account, Peter Cushing LTD.  We'll keep you posted of release dates and promotional video ads. - Marcus Brooks

WHAT'S BEHIND THAT DOOR? 'FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE'

I gave 'THE DOOR' story from Amicus films' 'From Beyond The Grave', several viewings last week. I truly believe, that in a film that was stuffed to the gills with excellent performances and stories, had it been part of say, Torture Garden or Vault of Horror, it would have got the recognition, it so truly deserves as a fine piece of cinema.

Superb cinematography from Alan Hume, with some clever in camera illusions, the 'Blue Room' set from Bert Davey, Simon Wakefield and Maurice Carter. Jack Watson as the chilling Sir Michael Sinclair and Lesley-Anne Down and Ian Ogilvy as young couple, the Seaton's are believable and really get into their roles in limited time span of a short story. I really wish Subotsky had developed this one into a full 90 minute feature. Along with Cushing's 'Poetic Justice' from Tales from the Crypt... this one is one of the jewels in the Amicus crown and looks beautiful! Anyone agree with me?

BRITISH CULT CINEMA: 'THE AMICUS ANTHOLOGY': BRUCE G. HALLENBECK

BRUCE G. HALLENBECK: British Cult Cinema: The AMICUS ANTHOLOGY: Order Here: http://www.hemlockbooks.co.uk/Shop/category/7

In 1965, the newly-formed Amicus Productions of filmmaking duo Max J Rosenberg and Milton Subotsky burst onto the British fantasy scene with Dr Terror’s House of Horrors, an anthology film featuring five tales of suspense and the supernatural. The success of Dr Terror encouraged the partners to produce more of the same and in the years that followed, Torture Garden, The House That Dripped Blood, Tales From the Crypt and others forever associated the name of Amicus with the anthology horror film.

The Amicus Anthology is an in-depth look at a body of films which were unique in the annals of fantasy cinema and featured not only the talents of horror icons Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee but those of dozens of the most famous names on the British screen in the 1960s and ’70s.

240pp plus 8pp in colour.
